Subject: Selection for the posts of Members in the Customs & Central Excise Settlement Commission  – Reg.

Sir/Madam

 

            I am directed to state that some posts of Member of the Customs & Central Excise Settlement Commission  have fallen vacant at Kolkata.  Some more vacancies are expected to arise in Kolkata and some even in other places.  As per the Customs & Central Excise Settlement Commission ( Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Members ) Amendment Rules, 2007 applicable to the said post,  only serving Chief Commissioners of Customs or Central Excise or officers of equivalent rank  are eligible to apply for these posts.    In case you are interested to be considered for the post of Member, you may kindly send your response on or before the due date in the following format:

 

“With reference to your letter F.No. A. 12026/2/2010-Ad.I dated 12th March, 2010, I offer myself as a candidate for the post of Member, Customs & Central Excise Settlement Commission.  I shall abide by the conditions specified in the above letter and other conditions as the Government of India may fix from time to time. I undertake that I shall not withdraw my name after 14.06.2010.  I shall also not decline the appointment when made.  Upon selection for appointment, I shall also seek voluntary retirement from Indian Revenue Service prior to the date on which I am required to join the post.  I shall also join the post within 30 days of the order of appointment.  I am aware that in case I violate any of the above conditions,  the Government of India is likely to debar me for a period of 3 years for consideration for appointment outside the cadre and in any Autonomous Body/Statutory Body/Regulatory Body, without further notice to me in this regard”. 

 

2.         You should also indicate your preferences, if any, in descending order of preference for places of posting . (from out of New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai ).  If you do not indicate a particular location but have shown preference for certain other locations, it will be presumed that you do not wish to be appointed there.  If you do not indicate any location at all, it will be presumed that you have equal preference for all locations and that you do not wish a subsequent transfer to another location.  As you will, however, kindly appreciate, the place of posting of a Member of the Commission may not be determined only on the basis of his/her prior preference.

3.         If you intend to withdraw your candidature for any reason ,   you may do so on or before 14.06.2010.    In case you are considered and selected for appointment by the ACC, you should not decline the appointment. If you withdraw the applications after 14.06.2010 or if you decline the appointment or if you do not join within 30 days of the order of appointment,  you will not be considered for any further appointment outside your cadre for  three years.   You will also then be debarred for consideration for appointment outside the cadre and in any Autonomous Body/Statutory Body/Regulatory Body for a period of three years.  No further notice in this regard will be given to you.

 

4.         You are requested to kindly ensure that your application reaches the undersigned latest by 13th April, 2010 ,  failing which it will be presumed that you are not interested in applying for the said post.
