Revenue Secretary

Shri Arunish Chawla

Arunish Chawla joined as India’s 38th Revenue Secretary on 26/12/2024. He is an Economics PhD from the London School of Economics with specialization in International Macroeconomics. His areas of interest include macro-economic modelling and its linkages with monetary and fiscal policy. 

Arunish is a 1992 batch IAS officer allocated to the Bihar Cadre and winner of the Director’s Gold Medal for best all-round performance at the National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. He started his career as Assistant Collector, Sub-divisional Magistrate and Collector-cum-District Magistrate in six districts of Bihar and Jharkhand States in India. 

He has worked in various capacities in the Finance Ministries at both Centre and State levels, as India’s Minister-Economic to the United States and as Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. Before joining the present assignment, he was serving as India’s Pharmaceutical and Culture Secretary.
